Alfred Stock Memorial Award for Prof. Christian Limberg

Professor Christian Limberg, Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, has received the Alfred Stock Memorial Award from the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker which honors outstanding research in the field of inorganic chemistry. Christian Limberg is recognized for his comprehensive work on oxygen complexes and oxidation reactions.

The award was presented at the annual Lecture Meeting of the Wöhler-Vereinigung, the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the GDCh, in Regensburg, Germany, on September 24, 2018.


Christian Limberg studied chemistry at the University of Bochum, Germany, where he received his Ph.D. in 1992. He also has a D. Phil. from the University of Oxford, UK, which he completed in 1995. Limberg completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg in 1999 and joined the Technical University of Munich, Germany, as Deputy Leader of the chair for the inorganic chemistry in 2001. Since 2003, he serves as Full Professor at Humboldt University.

For his scientific work Christian Limberg was awarded a Karl-Winnacker-Stipendium of the Aventis Foundation, the academy prize of the Academy of Science in Göttingen, the Carl-Duisberg-Gedächtnispreis of the GDCh, and the Horst Dietrich Hardt Award of the Universität des Saarlandes. Since 2013 he has been speaker of the Collaborative Research Center 1109 and since 2015 elected member of the DFG (German Research Foundation) Review Board on molecular chemistry.
